Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) is a safe, minimally invasive procedure that reduces the size of your stomach by placing sutures (stitches) in the stomach, making the stomach look more like a tube. This limits the amount of food you can eat and leads to significant weight loss.
Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty is an outpatient procedure which uses a camera that is inserted into the mouth and down into the stomach. It leaves no external scars on the body since the whole procedure is done using the camera to see the stomach. During the procedure, general anesthesia is used and the whole process takes about 90 minutes. When the procedure is over, patients are woken from sedation. The majority of patients then are able to go home the same day. Since the procedure is minimally invasive, the recovery time is very short, usually only 1-3 days.
